The concept is simple. 6 on 6 TF2, but with no Scouts, Soldiers, or Demomen to be seen. Your first reaction may well be, to quote atrox_, “Sounds retarded,” but think about it for a second or two and hopefully you’ll realise just how fun it can be. The winning team will each recieve a Lo-Fi Longwave of their own.
That’s a draft excerpt from what I’ll probably post to vanillatf2.org as soon as I get the sign-up page sorted out (or wait for the video… read on). With the prototype test match a success, I plan to be organising this cup for around the start of October so that there’s plenty of time for publicising (VanillaTF2, KritzKast, SPUF, Facepunch, you name it), and this is the perfect opportunity to promote PubComp. (N.B. As I am organising the teams and tournament pretty much myself, this will be European teams only. If it is a success though, then sequels will surely follow in NA too).
Here’s what we need: one epic promo poster, potentially with a Lo-Fi Longwave hanging off the text and heavy(s), pyro(s), spy(s) and engy(s) populating the back or foreground. This will also need the link to the sign-up site (will probably be challonge.com/offclass) and a date for signups to close: (perhaps the 1st October? We shall see).
We also need a short promo video / trailer. It only needs to be 30s to a minute, and can use footage from the SourceTV demo of the test match on Gullywash (http://tf2demos.com/demo/1313792007/mix-team-vs-mix-team-b) as well as obviously including the title and saying in large [TF2 Build font] something along the lines of “Competitive TF2… as you’ve never seen it before” or “Imagine 6v6… without its favourite inhabitants” accompanied by appropriate TF2 music and short excerpts of said footage. The signup date and details will come at the end of course, hopefully with a big PubComp logo after!
From what all the players said this evening, it was brilliant fun and they can’t wait to bring their own teams to the melee or, in Comedian‘s case, shoutcast the event on VanillaTV.
Graphics and Video gurus, your help is needed! It shouldn’t be too large a task either, but it really needs doing. Please discuss everything in the comments below and feel free to add me on Steam.
Best wishes all,
Trent

Addendum Number 2: KritzKast branding will need to be featured alongside PubComp’s in the video and poster.
I’m all for fun TF2 stuff that crosses into the competitive, and this is a wonderful idea. Thanks Trent (Daystar)!
The link to the signup page is: http://tiny.cc/offclass
The date for the end of signups will be Friday 19th September at midnight: 19-09-11
Sounds like fun. But what is the date for the match? I’d like to sign up but not if I have to work on the date.
THE match, Gabbybob? … It’s a tournament between as many 6-man teams as want to sign up. The date will depend on how many do. It’s very early days right now. The sooner I get the video from Bear (or whoever) the sooner I can really start promoting it.
Alright. Well, how about location? Will it me EU servers or US servers? I guess that’s my main problem.
“N.B. As I am organising the teams and tournament pretty much myself, this will be European teams only. If it is a success though, then sequels will surely follow in NA too.”
Implies European servers used for European teams, mate.
almost got the promo vid ready, ill probably have it done by the end of the day
well here it is, if theres something someone doesnt like please tell me before i make it public
What are the unlock rules, class rules, and map rules?
Spamfest, the unlock rules and class rules as we had them (iirc) are in the topic title of #pubcomp on QuakeNet if you must know. Maps have not been finalised as the number needed will depend on rounds of the tournament and thus teams signed up.
I see the video has been published, so I shan´t be discussing it any more!
Thanks John for doing such a good job, and I´m making the post on VanillaTF2 now while still in Barcelona. This is the second time I´ve found some internet access all week…
Here it is: http://www.vanillatf2.org/2011/08/offclass/
it didn’t before, but the VanillaTF2 guys finally got round to publishing it so it should work now!
Stay tuned for updates about signups and everything, folks.

(As a note, because this needs to be written down somewhere: shoutouts (thank yous) during the video need to be given to: ALX, Agro, Bubblebobbler, Comedian, Fallen, ForzaEagle, Ghostface, Kastos, Selsper, Si, Thalash, TviQ, and Junde.)
Also guys, don’t fret: unlock rules, class limits, and maps have been discussed.
